Out in the Open: phase #3 – conference
Out in the Open was a project, a training for youth workers, that took place in three phases between September and December 2019. The training topic was using outdoor education with LGBTI+ youth.
You can read about the first phase, who participated and how we experienced it and also watch a video recap of it. In short, though our own experience in nature we got to know outdoor education in how to use it to work with LGBTI+ youth.
The second phase took place in countries of origin of participating youth workers (besides Slovenia also Latvia, Greece, Italy, Spain, Estonia and the Czech Republic). We put the gained knowledge into practice. For the Slovene team the first event was our autumn camp, and the second one the All for Rainbow street action in Maribor. If you want to know more about what we do, take a look at the photo albums or send us an email inquiring about anything you want to know.
We met in Riga, Latvia again for phase three, where we shared our experiences from phase two, experienced new experiential learning tools, we made fun videos about the project and used methods (Recipe for Inclusion, 8 tips for beginner trainers in Outdoor Education, What is Out in the Open Project about?, Testimonials Participants), we planned and implemented the final conference of the project titled Should I come out?
This is how our capacity building looked like:
And the final conference:
We used our last day together for evaluating, taking a look at what we learned, sharing our feelings and showing appreciation for the whole project, the organisational team and all participants that contributed to what we were able to take with us for our work, communities, organisations and for us personally.
The project Out in the Open is supported by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme. It was created from the cooperation between the Latvian organisation Piedzivojuma Gars and the Active Rainbow collective with the participation of sending organisations Solidarity Mission, Ticket2Europe, Asociace DICE, Associazione Vagamondo, Rõuge Noorsootöö Keskus – Rõuge noortekeskus and Društvo DIH – Enakopravni pod mavrico.
