‘My European Solidarity Corps volunteering has been the best thing I’ve ever done. Not only was I able to explore a whole new country and have incredible experiences like leading Ljubljana Pride, I was was welcomed with open arms by the DIH team. I was terrified of coming on the exchange and not making friends, but this could not have been further from the reality. By far the best part of volunteering for DIH has been working with the team who are all friendly, funny, and passionate about their work. The added bonuses of working with, and getting to know, the local and national LGBTQIA+ community, experiencing a new culture, and learning a new language were only pluses to my incredible experience. More than that, working at DIH made me see the difference I personally could make. Working on the All For Rainbow project allowed for me to assist in the decentralisation of the LGBTQIA+ community around Slovenia, something which I saw first hand was incredibly needed for isolated LGBTQIA+ individuals across the country. My ESC experience has helped to increase my self confidence, and working specifically with DIH has allowed me to develop skills which I will use throughout my life. I cannot recommend working as an ESC volunteer with DIH highly enough.’
