Kvakvačkanje is a crochet and knitting workshop organised in collaboration with two other queer organisations: Legebitra and Transakcija, which are both based in Ljubljana. The event takes place twice a month: on the second Tuesday of the month at our space (Slomškova Ulica 25, Ljubljana) and on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Legebitra youth centre (Trubarjeva Cesta 76a, Ljubljana). The aim of the workshop is to provide a space where you can work on your own project if you already know how to knit or crochet, or learn how to with the help of our volunteers.
You can drop in at any point during workshop hours, there is no need to arrive right at the start. Just make sure to give yourself enough time to create (getting started 20 minutes before closing might feel a bit rushed).
We provide all necessary materials: different types of (mostly acrylic) yarn and crochet hooks. However, you are always welcome to bring your own materials to use or donate for future events. The volunteers who facilitate the workshop will be happy to help you with learning how to crochet and/or knit, sharing their personal methods and styles, and if you’d like to, you can also be helping new people in the learning process! People of all skill levels are welcome, and there are no professional teachers at the workshop. We aim to create a space where people can exchange tips and learn together.
When you come to the event we will ask you to fill in the Logbook, the tool we use to report attendance at our events. It’s fully confidential, we will just ask for your gender and age, no personal details. At the beginning of the workshop, we do a round where we share our names, pronouns and what you’re currently working on. We usually make name tags with names and pronouns on them to help everyone communicate comfortably. Taking one is completely optional!
We usually play some chill music in the office, and the atmosphere is usually relaxed and quiet. Also, we have snacks and you can make yourself coffee or tea, if you want. We have some fidget toys if you need them as well.
The event is held both in English and Slovene, but you are welcome to speak whatever language you feel most comfortable with when creating. If you have any specific questions, accessibility requirements or other needs, please feel free to contact us via email or direct message on Instagram.
We sometimes take pictures of the process, but these usually only include the projects and not people’s faces. However, you can also ask not to be included in the pictures!
