Kvir Poteza is a board games evening that takes place twice a month, once at our space (Slomškova Ulica 25, Ljubljana) and once at the Legebitra youth centre (Trubarjeva Cesta 76a, Ljubljana). The aim of the evening is to spend time together playing a variety of board games, ranging from simple to more complex; it’’s a place where you can relax and meet new people in a laid-back atmosphere.
You can drop in at any point during event hours, there is no need to arrive right at the start. It’s worth bearing in mind, however, that if you arrive after the evening has already started, you may have to wait a while before you can join in with the games that are already underway. We do, anyway, try to have a variety of games available, including some with very short rounds, so that everyone can take part as soon as possible.
We’ll be providing a few games, but you’re welcome to bring your own and share them with the rest of the group during the evening. Any kind of game is welcome, from strategy games to party games and co-operative games. We often rent them from a local shop, so if there’s a particular one you’d like to try, you can suggest it on our Instagram page or at the previous event. We ask you to be careful when playing (don’t lose any piece of it, bend the cards, etc.), whether the games are from our association, the shop or someone else.

To give you an idea, some of the games we’ve been playing recently are Dixit, Sushi Go!, Codenames, Azul and Uno. We usually try to play with as many people as possible, but often the group splits into smaller groups playing different games.
Depending on the game, the space can get quite loud and chaotic. However, there is a space downstairs where you can take a break if needed.
When you come to the event we will ask you to fill in the Logbook, the tool we use to report attendance at our events. It’s fully confidential, we will just ask for your gender and age, no personal details. Sometimes we make name tags with names and pronouns to help everyone communicate comfortably. Taking one is completely optional!
We usually play some chill music in the office. Also, we have snacks and you can make yourself coffee or tea, if you want. We have some fidget toys if you need them as well.
For now, the event is held in English because it is facilitated by our ESC volunteers. However, you are welcome to speak whatever language you feel most comfortable with when playing the games, bearing in mind the importance of being inclusive and welcoming to everyone present. If you have any specific questions, accessibility requirements or other needs, please feel free to contact us via email or direct message on Instagram.
We sometimes take pictures of the process, but these usually only include the games and not people’s faces. However, you can also ask not to be included in the pictures!
